I started my project Open Coven almost ten years ago and in that time it has gone through various iterations from blog to creative business. Only a couple of months ago I was all in with making Open Coven an embroidery business. Each stage of this project reflects what was going on for me personally and I can use this evolution as a sort of testament to my own growth and lived experiences.
One thing that never really sat well with me was the self-promotion and the seemingly endless short form content creation that was required to run a business these days. It felt shallow and inauthentic. This has led to some deep thought and divination about what should be next. In the last month or so I have found a job that aligns with my values and I feel so lucky. An additional advantage to getting this job is that I am free now to approach Open Coven as a service to myself and others without the constant pull to try and make money from it, which left a nasty taste in my mouth.
I have a few followers but not masses so being able to change my direction at will is easy to do as very few people are watching!
I have written these kinds of posts many times, stating that Open Coven is changing but it as how I mentally am able to clarify what is next. As we know, we often exist in cycles rather than linearity. For now I want Open Coven to be that – open. I want to share my own spiritual journey whilst also encouraging others to find theirs as well. The shop with embroidery patterns will stay open but since I want Open Coven to be a free community grounded in creativity and alternative spiritual practices, the majority of offering will be just that – free.
In the next few months there will be an unfolding that will be intuitive and based, I hope, in breaking down barriers for people who want to learn about and practice Pagan and related spiritual paths. Let’s see how it goes.
