Join Me for a Free Lammas Ritual

Where I have landed in the UK, I see the shift of the season as it mellows. The nights are a little longer, the fields turn to gold and we see the late flowers of goldenrod and yellow loosestrife. The year has been hard for too many of us. Join me as we step out of the push and pull of modern living to observe what can still be beautiful and refill our cups.

Lammas/Lughnasadh is the time of the first harvest. In this live ritual we will celebrate harvest, honor the sacrifices made to make the harvest possible, and meditate on how we need leisure not only for personal restoration but as an act of resistance against the capitalist machine.

In preparation for the ritual you can consider setting up the following items:

An altar using elements of gold and yellow, such as yellow flowers, crystals, fabric. In addition some symbols of harvest, a cut apple, some grasses or wheat sheaves. Something to symbolize the sun.

Beeswax candles, or yellow candles.

Some incense.

A piece of bread and/or some honey as an offering.

A piece of bread and some wine or non-alcoholic libation for celebration and consumption.

I will be using this part of Walt Whitman’s poem “Leaves of Grass”: https://whitmanarchive.org/item/ppp.00271_00461
