Preparation
The altar: White flowers and white candles (four). Shells, pebbles and other symbols of the ocean.
A blue altar cloth.
The Tarot card justice,
Any other ritual items you like to include.
Use incense, hydrosol, or a smoke bundle for purification.
Have a vessel for offerings. An offering of your choosing (wine, milk, seasonal fruit, bread etc.)
A drum if you have one or a coffee can works just as well.
Set up and clear your space with a ritual broom and/or smoke/hydrosol.
Cast a circle by welcoming the four quarters.
Read the following, taken from Leland’s Aradia Queen of the Witches.
In those days there were on earth many rich and many poor.
The rich made slaves of all the poor.
In those days were many slaves who were cruelly treated; in every palace tortures, in every castle prisoners.
Many slaves escaped. They fled to the country; thus they became thieves and evil folk. Instead of sleeping by night, they plotted escape and robbed their masters, and then slew them. So they dwelt in the mountains and forests as robbers and assassins, all to avoid slavery.
Diana said one day to her daughter Aradia:
‘Tis true indeed that thou a spirit art,
But thou wert born but to become again
A mortal; thou must go to earth below
To be a teacher unto women and men
Who fain would study witchcraft in thy school
And thou shalt be the first of witches known;
And thou shalt be the first of all i’ the world;
And thou shalt teach the art of poisoning,
Of poisoning those who are great lords of all;
Yea, thou shalt make them die in their palaces;
And thou shalt bind the oppressor’s soul (with power)
When I shall have departed from this world,
Whenever ye have need of anything,
Once in the month, and when the moon is full,
Ye shall assemble in some desert place,
Or in a forest all together join
To adore the potent spirit of your queen,
My mother, great Diana. She who fain
Would learn all sorcery yet has not won
Its deepest secrets, them my mother will
Teach her, in truth all things as yet unknown.
And ye shall all be freed from slavery,
And so ye shall be free in everything;
Now say;
Great mother and queen of the witches, we call on you as children of Aradia to bless and fortify our magickal work tonight.
Guided Visualization: We Are the Wave
You will need your drum at this point.
Rumi said: You are not a drop in the ocean, you are an entire ocean in one drop. And so it is.
The moon controls the tides and at the full moon they are strongest.
As I watch communities bloom in protest they look like beautiful waves gathering in strength and purpose. So let’s help this wave build through our collective power.
Sit or stand with both feet firmly planted on the ground and close your eyes. We take three breaths, each one slightly long that the last.
You are standing on a beach. The smell of the sea is in your nostrils. You can feel cool, wet sand under your feet. Perhaps there is the sound of a seagull. You can hear the waves very gently lap at your feet, lightly kissing your toes.
On the horizon is a large, pink full moon. It’s light reflected in ripples on the ocean’s surface. Keep looking at the moon as you breathe in and out, slowly filling your chest and stomach with air and then slowly exhaling. Use the drum beat to help regulate your breath.
With each inhale you are drawing in the power of the moon, and as you exhale, the power is transferred to the sea. With each exhale the waves become larger and more powerful.
Finally the wave has become so full and intense that it towers above you and crashes at your feet. With your hands, direct the wave away from you. Imagine its power entering every person in peril every person standing their ground. Filling them with hope, strength and protection. It glows in them with a beautiful pinkish light. All over the world whether its LA, Palestine, Sudan, Anywhere that force and oppression is polluting the world.
[reduce drumming]
As you hear the drum beat soften, the wave too softens until you are again hearing the gentlest of waves at your feet. But you too glow with a soft pink light. This light will stay with you.
Breathe deeply and slowly bring awareness back to your body. Wiggle you fingers and toes and maybe stretch a little.,
Now to show gratitude for our work, we make an offering saying:
Aradia Queen of Witches. May justice be our magic and protection our gift. We make these offerings in gratitude.
